Dear Parent
INDUSTRIAL ACTION: WEDNESDAY 30 NOVEMBER 2011

As you may be aware, formal notification has been received from the Teachers’ Trade Unions and other Trade Unions indicating their intention to take part in a national day of industrial action on Wednesday 30 November 2011 in response to proposed changes to public sector pension schemes.

We have looked closely at the health and safety issues resulting from this action and regrettably have decided that it is in everyone’s interest if your child’s school is closed to pupils on Wednesday 30 November. Clearly this means that you will need to make alternative arrangements for your child on that day.

I apologise for this situation - which is outwith our control - and thank you in advance for your co-operation. You should note that schools will be open for business as usual on Thursday 1 December 2011.

In the meantime, if you have any queries regarding this matter, please contact the school in the first instance.

Please note, information regarding the expected impact of the industrial action across all Council services, including schools, will be available on the Council’s website at www.south-ayrshire.gov.uk/industrialaction or from our customer contact centre on 0300 123 0900.

Information will be updated regularly over the coming days as details become available.

Yours sincerely

Dear Parent/Carer

INDUSTRIAL ACTION: WEDNESDAY 30 NOVEMBER 2011

As you will be aware, several Trade Unions have indicated to the Council that they intend taking industrial action on Wednesday 30th November 2011.

At this stage it is not possible to give accurate information on the effect that the industrial action will have on our schools, but early indications are that the effect on the Council’s education service will be severe. My purpose in writing, therefore, is to ask you to make provisional alternative arrangements for your child/children for 30th November 2011 in the event that your school is unable to open.

I will write to you again no later than Friday 25th November 2011 to advise whether your school will be closed for pupils or not. Meantime thank you for your patience in what are difficult circumstances.

Yours sincerely

Dear Parent/Carer

MARR COLLEGE: HEAD TEACHER

As you will already know, the Head Teacher of Marr College, Mr Paul Deacon, has been absent through illness for a number of weeks.

My purpose in writing to you is to advise that Mr Deacon has decided to retire from his post as Head Teacher and will therefore not be returning to school after the Summer holiday period. Meantime, Mrs Jane Sibley has taken on the role as Acting Head Teacher and the authority will be moving quickly in the new session to recruit a new Head Teacher for Marr College.

I am sure that you will wish to join with me in expressing gratitude to Mr Deacon for his contribution to young people’s education at Marr College and to wish him well in his retirement.

May I take this opportunity to wish you all a pleasant and relaxing holiday.

Yours sincerely

Harry M Garland
