Practical Cookery
S4 - National 4 S5 - National 5 Practical Cookery is the study of food, cooking, organisation and planning.
Learners will develop cookery skills, food preparation techniques and the ability to follow cookery processes in the context of simple food preparation and cooking. Learners will develop basic knowledge and understanding of the categories, uses and sourcing of ingredients, including sustainability and a basic ability to select and use ingredients in the preparation of simple dishes and to do so safely and hygienically. Students will develop basic planning, organisational and time management skills in the context of planning and producing simple dishes. Learners will acquire the ability to plan their work and follow the plan, follow simple recipes to prepare simple dishes for specific occasions and work safely and hygienically. |
Health and Food Technology
Food and health is essential for healthy living!
HFT is the study of nutrition and health, food product development and consumer issues. You will learn about the dietary needs at different life stages and why the body needs certain nutrients along with understanding why we choose the foods that we eat, the science behind the food and the effect and impact the media and current culture has on our choices. The course also gives an insight into how food items are created and you will get to make your own item and have it evaluated by your peers. You will learn through a variety of both practical and theory work. |
