Our final celebration on World Book Day was the prize draw for our Blind Date with a Book challenge.  Every pupil who took the risk and completed a cupids card got their name put into a hat and three names were drawn.  The winners were Caley, Aefa and Emma.  Well done girls.  Cupids cards can be read in the library for the next few weeks, if anyone is looking for inspiration on their next read.  Warning: They do range from 'best book ever' to 'if I owned this book, I'd burn it'

Throughout World Book Day, 2nd March, there were three scheduled English classes in the library.  To celebrate stories and do something booky they each took over the official School twitter account and created their own stories.  Each of the stories began with the same sentence: He opened the door, slowly.  There it stood.  Their task was to decide the next sentence ensuring it was no longer than the required 140 characters for a tweet.  The pupils then passed their sentence on whilst tearing off the sentence they had been given and coming to type that one up.  This way the storyteller only ever had the sentence before and not the whole story to work from.  It was good fun and all three stories are below .  Mr Ross, whose S1 class was not involved but who were in English at the same time had the twitter feed on display and the class really enjoyed watching the story unfold in real time.

• He opened the door, slowly.  There it stood.
  
• Creepy guy stood up and chased me out the room.
• I ran into a closed glass door.  The creepy man caught me but it turned out to be Matt Damon!!!
• He stopped and gave me candy.  Then out of the shadows came a creepy animatronic puppet.
• He jumped out from the shadows making him scream.  The monster asks for a hug.
• But he doesn’t hear the monster.  He runs out a door to the deserted graveyard, but he sees his grave!
• He suddenly has a flashback to the day he died.  On this day he was slaughtered by…
• The gardener on Halloween.
• He backed out and called his mum.
• He realised she was dead and then he saw her.  The walked, hand in hand, into the light.

• He opened the door, slowly.  There it stood.
  
• The bed belonging to his parents, them in it…They were dead.
• Both stone cold dead.  What had happened? Out comes a man from under the bed.
• Runs to his meds, smack em over the head, then he’s just lying dead.
• He wakes up, backs up, then gets hit by a truck, then he gets straight up.
• His face is covered with Jam, his name is Tam. 
• He was tall and beside him was a scary dog.
• Who had lost its teeth and like pie.
• He ain’t got no alibi
• So he got put in jail
• But got out on bail
• Thanks to an old friend
• He was saved again.
• As he turned he caught a glimpse of the most horrifying thing, A GIANT PINK FLUFFY UNICORN.

#WBDMarrStory3 (S1)

• He opened the door, slowly.  There it stood.
  
• A present lay there, barely touched.
• The present was small in a little pink box with a bow on it. 
• Inside this beautiful box was a small puppy that looked like a fluffy snowball.
• But the dog twitched as his eyes blinked red. Then…
• The puppy mutated into something huge and ugly that he had never seen before.
• He ran and jumped out the window.  The huge puppy mutant thing chased after him. It jumped onto him and
• In a sudden twist, the mutant puppy thing licked him right in the face but
• Then John Cena came out of nowhere and had a massive scrap with the mutant puppy.
• John Cena drop kicked a bin lid into the mutant puppy thing.  Suddenly
• The puppy thing bit back and threw the man into the river, then John Cena
• Jumped into the lake filled with pokemen and th Gyarados evolved into
• A cat, its real form, then the cat ate John Cena and died th next day. 

As part of our World Book Day celebrations the library became a photo booth over lunchtime.  There were an abundance of props ranging from super hero masks to witches broomsticks and as you can see from the gallery below the pupils had great fun recreating known characters and creating their own, such as SuperOwl!
