School Colours
Marr College Colours
At Marr College we realise that students have many different talents and skills. We seek to recognise
these through our rewards system of badges, ties, half Colours and full Colours.
Colours are awarded in the following areas: Academic, Sports, Expressive Arts and Wider Achievement and
can be linked to activities within or out with school. Being awarded Colours is a great honour and students
need to demonstrate real commitment to be considered for an award.
In S1- S3 successful pupils are awarded a certificate and badge to recognise their achievement. By the end of S3, candidates who have demonstrated our school values of Community, Ambition, Respect and Equality throughout their activities will be given special recognition by receiving a Marr College CARE award.
In S4, pupils are awarded a senior school tie in recognition of their achievements. In S5, pupils are awarded half-colours for their blazer and if they achieve this, they can go on to receive full colours in S6. Full Colours are the ultimate award in S6, and all pupils should strive to achieve this. Some of our students may well be eligible for more than one Colours award. In this instance we would ask that they complete separate applications forms for the areas they are eligible for i.e. Academic, Sports, Expressive Arts and Wider Achievement.
Colours awards are decided by a panel of staff and are linked to the criteria set out under each heading shown. Application Forms can be found at the bottom of this page.

For example, when applying for academic colours, it is not enough to say that you have consistently achieved high grades in exams. You have already been rewarded for this through SQA certification. Within your personal statement you need to think about what your achievement says about you as a person. What skills have you gained? How are you using these skills to benefit you and others within our community?
It can be helpful to include supporting evidence within your personal statement, e.g. photos, certificates. This can give the panel a better understanding of your achievements and we also enjoy seeing all the wonderful activities our young people participate in.
When you have completed your statement, you must ask a referee to countersign it, indicating that you have given an accurate account of your successes. Once your application has been signed off, make sure you hand it in to the school office before the final deadline. Application forms received after the deadline will not be considered in the current session.
It will take quite some time to complete a successful application form, so make sure you start work on it as soon as the application window opens. Take pride in your personal statement, this is your chance to share your achievements with the wider school community. The panel enjoy reading your applications and trust that they give each and every one very careful consideration.
