The purpose of the Art and Design courses is to provide a broad practical experience of art and design and related critical activity.
The course provides opportunities for learners to be inspired and creatively challenged as they explore how to visually represent and communicate their personal thoughts, ideas and feelings through their work.
Creativity and independent problem solving are core elements in Art and Design. Through fostering such skills in the art studios our learners are better prepared for life after school.
National 4/5 and Higher
At National 5 and Higher level you will complete: an Expressive Portfolio, a Design Portfolio and a Critical Studies written exam paper, all of which will be externally marked by SQA.
Expressive Portfolio
This aspect of the course looks at planning, researching and developing creative expressive work in response to a theme/stimulus. You will select a theme/stimulus which appeals to you and produce detailed analytical drawings and a variety of compositional studies. These will be used in the development of a large final piece of artwork.
You will be required to reflect on and evaluate your creative process and the visual qualities in your work.
