What will you learn?
- To explore the digital Built Environment using industry standard software
- Use Autodesk Revit to design and construct buildings and spaces
- How to take these skills beyond the classroom onto site visits during the year
- About careers in architecture, engineering and construction

One of the great features of this course is that you will have the opportunity to work with a local design and construction company who will support and guide you. This will involve visits to sites, outdoor work to plan your designs and using Avantis VR Headsets to take your creations into the virtual world.
How is the course assessed?
See https://designengineerconstruct.com/qualifications/ for more information.
The DEC Level 1 course award is at SCQF Level 5 (Nat 5) and you will develop skills in using Autodesk Revit to design and construct buildings as outlined in a design brief. As you progress through the programme, you will develop advanced digital skills using industry standard modelling and analysis software for building and infrastructure design. The course assessment is 100% portfolio work which is marked both internally and externally for verification purposes.

Level 1 Example Task - Design an Eco Classroom

You will use an area around the school as the ‘building site’ location of the Eco Classroom. This enables ease of access to a safe, outdoor space in which you can explore areas such as building orientation and access. You will get first-hand experience of carrying out industry practices in an outdoor space such as marking out the position of your building design on the school playing fields.
If you decide to move on to Level 2 (SCQF 6 / Higher) you will continue to develop your skills and knowledge of the Built Environment creating an impressive personalised portfolio of all your work. The course assessment is 50% portfolio work which is marked both internally and externally for verification purposes and 50% Exam which is externally marked.

Level 2 Example Task - Design a Community Building

Your level of skills and knowledge will increase at Level 2, where you will design and construct buildings such as a community health centre, a scout and guide hut, a nursery/child care centre or a community sports centre.
You will be supported to take ownership of your own project, focusing on a need for the community. You will also be given the opportunity to work with with your ‘client’ – the local community itself - through the involvement of family, friends, teachers, and other outside partners.
Throughout the level 1 and 2 courses, a local company will work with the school to support your progress. They will also provide access to site visits and experts will be on hand to help you construct your designs.
Talented people design, engineer and construct the greatest projects in the world and make a positive difference to the planet.
Get involved. Design your future.
