Philosophy
Why choose to study Philosophy?
Perhaps you have wondered about who we are, what we are doing here and how we should behave? Do you enjoy debating and engaging in genuine moral discussions? Maybe you have excellent literacy skills and would like to be challenged in a different way? Or perhaps you simply want to challenge your own views and opinions and learn about what some of the great thinkers of our time have go to say?

Due to the high level of demand for literacy skills within Philosophy, it is expected that all pupils wishing to study Philosophy at any level have demonstrated excellence in areas such as research, analysis and evaluation and a commitment to independent reading and learning.
Students wishing to take Higher Philosophy must have achieved a minimum of National 5 A pass in English and at least one other social subject.
It is recommended that pupils wishing to take Higher Philosophy have studied RMPS or Philosophy at National 5 in S4/5.

National 5 Course Structure
- Unit 1: Arguments in Action (the study of language and how we use it)
- Unit 2: Moral Philosophy (what should we use to help us decide what is right?)
- Unit 3: Knowledge and Doubt (what is knowledge and where does it come from?)
- Assignment : worth 20% and completed under timed conditions
