Why RMPS?

National 4/5 Course Structure
Unit 1 : Religious and Philosophical Questions : We study the Problem of Evil and Suffering Unit 2 : Morality and Belief : We study Medicine, focusing on the topics of euthanasia and use of embryos. Unit 3 : World Religions : We study Christianity The formal assessment structure and course work information can be found here. Pupils will also have an assignment (N5) which makes up 20% of the final grade and is marked by the SQA. This subject develops decision making and critical thinking skills and has a focus on the literacy skills of writing, analysis and evaluation. Pupils opting for N5 RMPS must also be studying English at N5 level. |
Higher Course Structure
Unit 1 : Religious and Philosophical Questions : We study Evil and Suffering. Unit 2 : Morality and Belief : We study Conflict, focusing on justifications and consequences of war and modern weapons. Unit 3 : World Religions : We study Christianity Pupils will also have an assignment which makes up a percentage of their final grade. This is similar to a discursive essay and is completed under timed exam conditions. This subject develops decision making and critical thinking skills and has a focus on the literacy skills of writing, analysis and evaluation. Pupils opting for Higher RMPS must have at least N5 English and ideally be studying Higher English at the same time if they have not already achieved it. Higher RMPS is held in high regard by universities as one of the most suitable courses to prepare young people for university. It is accepted by universities as a social science and covers a wide range of topical and interesting issues, encouraging pupils to develop their own views and opinions. |
