Peer Volunteering Award
Peer Volunteering Award
Peer tutoring – leading to SQA Level 5 Volunteering Award
Are you interested in helping and supporting other pupils, in addition to developing your own leadership skills, confidence, empathy and interpersonal skills? Then you would really benefit and enjoy peer tutoring where you work closely with individuals or small groups to support and help them to achieve.
In turn, you will be rewarded with the opportunity to achieve SQA’s Level 5 Volunteering Award. This is a formal, nationally recognised award that is valued by further education, universities and employers since it demonstrates your experience and skills in responsibility, organisation, planning, leadership, teamwork and highly effective communication with advanced interpersonal skills. You can also progress from here to higher levels of SQA’s Volunteering Award at further education, and indeed employment in the third sector:
You will take part in training workshops on tutoring, plan your intervention with pupil(s) and work closely with them providing support for at least 20 hours. You will also learn about the wider world of volunteering and the opportunities available. You will maintain a reflective activity portfolio, tracking the impact of your intervention and your own development. Towards the end of the course, you will prepare and deliver a short presentation highlighting the impact your contribution has made on the pupils you have tutored, and your own development. Previous candidates have found this experience to be hugely rewarding.
Feedback from a former pupil said that it was key to building their confidence and they found they could now adapt their presence and communication style to work with younger pupils. They loved being able to spark passion and interest in learning for young people and support them to achieve well.
