Work Placement with Personal Development Award (Level 6)

If so, then the Work Placement with PDA course is for you!
This course is designed for S6 pupils who want to develop their skills and confidence in a real work environment. You will spend up to 4 periods a week on a work placement of your making, where you will learn from experienced professionals and apply your knowledge to practical tasks. You will also spend 2 periods a week in a classroom, where you will work through your Personal Development Award (PDA) at Level 6.
This award will help you to reflect on your learning, set goals for your future and showcase your achievements. Work experience is essential for your personal and professional growth, as it will help you to discover your strengths, interests and career aspirations. It will also enhance your CV and make you stand out to employers, colleges and universities.

Learners will complete a work placement two afternoons per week. On the other period they will complete their Work Placement Project and Personal Development Award Units: Self Awareness and Self and Work.
Self-found Placement
Learners should be prepared to source their own placement within an area of interest. Class leader can support learners in sourcing their placement provider.
Units
Units can be awarded at levels 4, 5 or 6.
Assessment / Outcomes
Assessment will take the form of a completed portfolio, observational assessments and work placement supervisor assessment checklist.
On successful completion of the Unit the learner will be able to:

- The Work Placement Unit is designed to recognise the valuable learning and development which takes place as a result of planning and carrying out a suitable work placement. Learners will have an opportunity to think about their abilities and career aspirations in preparation for their work placement. During the placement they will negotiate tasks, work with others and carry out a vocational learning project. Learners will evaluate their progress on completion of the placement.
- The Self Awareness Unit will allow learners to increase their knowledge of their own qualities and feelings while undertaking a personal project.
- The Self and Work Unit will allow Learners to develop their task management skills while undertaking a vocational project.
Units can be awarded at levels 4, 5 or 6.
