Personal Development Award + (Level 4) – Name TBC
Are you looking for a fun and rewarding way to develop your skills and interests in S3? Do you want to earn a nationally recognised qualification that will boost your confidence and employability? If so, you might be interested in our Personal Development Award+ course option!
Personal Development Award+ is a unique opportunity for S3 pupils to work towards achieving their Personal Development Award at Level 4. This award is designed to help you plan, review and evaluate your learning experiences, as well as develop your personal, interpersonal and self-management skills.
As part of the course, you will get to choose from one of the following exciting options: Nail Bar, Bike Maintenance or Rural Skills. Each option will allow you to learn new practical skills, work with others and explore different career paths. You will also complete a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your achievements and reflect on your progress.

Cycle Maintenance
SQA Level 4 Cycle Maintenance. (Max 12 students)
The general aim of this unit is to enable the learner to develop the skills and knowledge to identify both routine and non-routine maintenance/repair tasks required on a cycle.
The learner will be required to develop and use a systematic method of checking the cycle to assist in the identification of faults. The learner will develop a maintenance and lubrication schedule designed to keep the cycle in optimum condition. This approach is designed to encourage a proactive rather than a reactive approach to cycle maintenance. The learner will also carry out a range of both routine and non-routine maintenance/ repair tasks to ensure the cycle is well maintained and safe to use. This will include disassembly and reassembly and the correct setting up of various sub systems of the cycle.
Learners who complete this Unit will be able to:
Once this course is complete pupils will gain a SQA Level 4 in Cycle Maintenance.
SQA Level 4 Cycle Maintenance. (Max 12 students)

Learners who complete this Unit will be able to:
- Carry out a safety cycle check and identify faults.
- Develop and make use of a regular maintenance and lubrication schedule for a cycle.
- Carry out a range of less frequent and specialised repair and maintenance tasks.
Once this course is complete pupils will gain a SQA Level 4 in Cycle Maintenance.
Nail Bar
With Ayrshire College support we cover 3 units of a VTCT qualification which is an Entry Level Award in Hair and Beauty skills.
The pupils study:
We focus on customer care and have a strong and positive work ethic promoting a positive attitude in the work place for our young people. Budgeting, reception duties, stock control, buying and getting value for money are only some of the skills, as well as becoming an expert in painting nails, you will gain when working in our Nail Bar.
With Ayrshire College support we cover 3 units of a VTCT qualification which is an Entry Level Award in Hair and Beauty skills.
The pupils study:
- Communication skills,
- Care for your own hands and
- Paint your own nails.
We focus on customer care and have a strong and positive work ethic promoting a positive attitude in the work place for our young people. Travel & Tourism with Barista
The National 4 and 5 Skills for Work: Travel and Tourism Course is an introductory qualification in travel and tourism. It develops the skills, knowledge and attitudes, needed for work in the travel and tourism industry. We will aim to provide links to employers in this course and offer career links and work experience as part of this course
Learners will develop:
At SCQF level 5, the candidate will work alone or with others on tasks with minimum support. There is no final exam at either National 4 or National 5 level for this course.
National 4 and National 5 Travel and Tourism consists of 4 units:
1. Employability (including work placement)
2. Scotland Unit
3. UK and Worldwide Unit
4. Customer Service

Barista Skills
An opportunity to work in the barista/professional kitchen area and develop your practical cookery skills. You will learn skills for life while working as part of a team running small enterprise projects.
Learners will develop:
- skills to become effective job-seekers and employees
- skills to deal effectively with all aspects of customer care and customer service in travel and tourism
- the product knowledge and skills to deal effectively with customer enquiries in relation to travel and tourism in Scotland, the rest of the United Kingdom and worldwide
