Dear Parent/Carer,
As a successful school year ends I would like to thank you for your continued support and update you regarding the school’s progress. The students and teaching staff have much to be proud of this year. Our whole school attainment and wider achievements have significantly improved on last year.
There were notable successes at local, national and international levels in both team and individual sports. We have sustained our partnership programmes with many local businesses through our development of Scotland’s Young Workforce strategy and presented these to other schools across Scotland. This will be a focus for us next session.
Our young people have once again excelled in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and culturally in the wider sense; we have provided experiential learning through our educational excursions that are essential to the learning process in many of our subjects.
Learning Review Days with students and parents in attendance have proven to be overwhelmingly popular. Their success will see them extended to S3 students in the next session.
Partnership working with our primary colleagues this year has enhanced learning. Projects in Literacy, Numeracy and Expressive Arts have developed not only our curriculum but also created further opportunities for sharing information and resources, operating more collaboratively and providing a stimulating transition programme.
The first phase of the Marr building refurbishment is well underway and we look forward to taking occupancy of our new building in January 2017. Phase 2 will then commence. This is a really exciting time for our school and community. Communication both to and from the school is vital for relationships and improvement. Throughout this session we have sought opinion from stakeholders about a range of issues, including attendance, parents evenings, reporting and the website. Information received has helped us enormously in our planning, and how we communicate effectively with our community. Our website contains all the important information on the life and work of the school. In addition, the Parent Council has a page that informs of their meetings, forward plans and the Head Teacher and students’ monthly report.
You are most welcome to join the parent forum meetings that will be scheduled next session.
This year our junior award ceremony will be held on Thursday 25th August in Troon Old Parish church. Our senior ceremony will be held on Wednesday 31st August in the Troon Concert Hall. This allows us to celebrate the attainment and achievements of all our young people with their families. Letters and invitations to our prizewinners will be issued in August.
Our senior students will receive their SQA examination results on Tuesday 9th August. Following the publication of the results there may be some students who want to reconsider their options. This will be dealt with in school on Thursday18th August.
Support from parents is vital to the work and life of the school and therefore I again ask all parents and carers to ensure that our young people come to school with a professional approach. This means that they adhere to the school uniform dress code, they are equipped at all times with their Study Planner, books, materials for Hospitality and PE, plus writing implements. We believe that being fully prepared for learning brings positive results.
The school’s Standards and Quality Report for this session will be available on the website in August along with the School Improvement Plan for sessions 2016 – 2018.
Finally, a reminder the school will close at 1.00pm on Wednesday 29th June for our summer holiday. It will reopen for students on Thursday 18th August at 8.45am.
