A group of 18 S2 (new S3) students attended the Mission Discovery taster day at Kilmarnock College on Friday 23rd June, along with pupils from thirty schools across Ayrshire. They met with and heard talks from the inspirational NASA astronaut Mike Foale, and they took part in a rocket challenge - competing with the other pupils to design a compressed air rocket which travels the furthest.

On Friday, we attended the ISSET NASA workshop at Ayrshire College. We got to build a rocket and experiment with gravity. We worked in a team with Marr students and two girls from Stewarton Academy and competed against the rest of the groups. We won the team challenge award since our rocket went the furthest (full length of the football pitch).
This award was presented to us by astronaut Michael Foale who has been a NASA astronaut for 27 years and is now an International Space Station Commander.
Overall we found the day interesting and enjoyable. We learned lots of information that we can use in everyday life. We also used our teamworking skills which we developed through the day.
