Student opportunites at University

We have recently been informed of opportunites for our pupils at two Scottish Universities.

Strathclyde University are offering Accelerate Courses: "A week-long programme for pupils at the beginning of S5 and S6" focussed on various career and subject options. Full details here.

University of the West of Scotland are offering a Taster Session: A day to learn more about life at UWS and participate in a workshop on a course they are intersted in studying. For pupils starting S5 in 2017. Full details here.

Pupils should contact Mrs Cooper if they wish more information on either option.

SAAS Applications Open in APRIL

Advance Notice

All students who hold an offer for entry to University in 2017 will be able to apply for their fees and financial support through the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) from April. Applications should be submitted by the end of June in order to ensure that all funding is available by the start of term.

Full details are available from the SAAS Website, inlcuding what funding is available and how applications are assessed.

Team Rocket - Assemble!

We have a group of senior students who are hoping to win big with their rocket design. They are taking part in The Great STEM UK Youth Rocketry Challenge 2017.

Details of their progress can be found on their blog. We wish them the very best for success at Prestwick Internation Airport in March and hope their rocket flies and lands the egg safely.

Following our S1 Assembly on Expressive Arts our students have been asked to choose which Expressive Arts they would like to continue with in S2. Please click on the S2 EA form for more information. All options forms can be found on the curriculum matters page.

The deadline for the return of all choices is Tuesday 28th February

South Ayrshire Children's Service Plan

Parents and carers: Have your say

We are keen to hear the views on what’s important for children and families to help us to develop South Ayrshire’s Children’s Service Plan. This will help support joint working to enable children in South Ayrshire to be safe, healthy, achieve, nurtured, active, respected, responsible and included.

Services have been working together to identify what they see as the main priorities to focus on and we would like parents and carers to have their say by completing a short survery: here.

The consultation will only take place between the 13th and 22nd February 2017.

Scottish Schools Indoor Athletics

Marr College had 3 representatives at the Scottish Schools Indoor Athletics Championships on the 1st and 2nd February at the Emirates Arena.

Jaime Hood, 4W, reached the final of the Over 16 Girls 300m finishing in 4th place. On route to the final Jaime won her heat and semi-final.

Daniel Martin, 5W1, reached the semi-final of the Over 16 Boys 400m and Matilda Press 3F reached the semi-final of the Under 16 Girls 200m.

Well done to all our athletes who competed.

South Ayrshire Senior Phase curriculum

The South Ayrshire Senior Phase curriculum website is now available for parents/carers and pupils to access. The blog has been designed to provide a range of information relating to the senior phase (S4 to S6) curriculum on offer in South Ayrshire. The learner pathways available to pupils allows them to choose from a range of options which they can combine to create a more personalised senior phase curriculum through our school – college partnership, work placements, university and school based learning. Clicking on the tabs shown will provide you with more detailed information relating to each of the sections.

Careers and Options Evening

3/2/2017

Our Careers and Options Evening will be held on Tuesday 7th February starting at 6pm.   Everyone is most welcome.

Students and parents will have the opportunity to speak to subject specialists in our departments, as well as gain advice from a wide range of employers, consultants and further and higher education representatives.    We have over 20 external representatives who will be available on the night providing one to one advice and workshops.

Our sincere thanks go to Mr Sinclair, Mrs McGill and the hospitality classes for providing ‘soup and savoury scones’ for the evening.

The format for the evening will be:
6pm       Welcome & Speech from Bill Porterfield. This will be repeated at 7pm due to the volume of parents/students attending.

All departments in our museum (each department will have one stall)
SDS, Ayrshire College, Universities will be in the snack bar and library area
Our employers and consultants will be based in the Learning Plaza
Workshops will take place in our Science write up rooms

We look forward to discussing options and careers with all who attend on the evening.
