A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE
Students from Marr College have been working with the National Theatre of Scotland on a brand new show: Wild Life FM. The devised concept, in association with the Gaiety Theatre (Ayr) and CAMPO (a collective from Belgium), explores young people’s relationship with music and how music helps them express themselves – and cope with teenage life. Three senior students (Aaron B, Sarah C and Megan P – who are all doing National 5 Drama) have been selected in roles where they either act or sing; members of the ensemble include Rachel M, Claire-Louise M and William S. Many of these young people participated in the Gaiety’s summer school and are now involved with the Gaiety Young Company on a regular basis. As part of Scotland’s Year of Young People 2018, the National Theatre of Scotland’s Futureproof season started last weekend with A Mile in My Shoes in the Highlands, and ends with Wild Life FM in South Ayrshire. Jackie Wylie, Artistic Director and CEO of the National Theatre of Scotland, explains the concept: “Ten new productions from some of the biggest global names in theatre-making and a host of our best Scottish talent will take place in ten locations all across the country. It has been incredible to work side-by-side with Scottish artists and communities of young people.” Drama teacher Marianne Gunn added: “It is great that we could highlight this opportunity – to work with globally-esteemed drama practitioners – to our young people. I hope that they will share their thoughts on the experience next month. Until then, why not show your support by going along to see the special interest show.” Wild Life FM is at the Gaiety Theatre at 7.30pm on Saturday 27/Sunday 28 October. Tickets available from Gaiety website or via the National Theatre of Scotland. https://thegaiety.co.uk/national-theatre-of-scotlandcampo-wild-life-fm/ If you are aged 14-26 you can sign up for free to Futureproof Passport at nationaltheatrescotland.com/futureproof-passport.
