We are delighted to announce that our S6 School Captains and Vice-Captains for session 2019-20 are:
Captains: Olivia Burnham and Calum Inglis Vice-Captains: Rosie Tudor and Logan Cotter In total 12 candidates were interviewed from the initial 24 applicants, which shows that there is significant leadership potential within our new S6. Sincere thanks to interview panel members Mrs Duncan, Ms Law, Mr Simpson and Mrs Young. Our house captains will be announced in due course. As you will be aware, we have been committed to improving outcomes for learners with Dyslexia and other barriers to learning through reviewing our inclusive practice over the past session. This has included:
As part of our continuing professional learning programme we are delighted to announce that the vast majority of teaching and support staff have completed an online module: An Introduction to Dyslexia and Inclusive Practice supported by Dyslexia Scotland and Education Scotland. In recent months South Ayrshire Council have published ‘Revised Assessment and Intervention Guidelines for Dyslexia’. These will be available to view through our website next session and will inform the creation of our own school guidelines. In May 2019 South Ayrshire Council launched their updated accreditation initiative entitled the ‘Dyslexia and Inclusive Practice Award’. We will be asked to complete a self-evaluation exercise and submit a report by October 2019 with our current position. In light of this we would like to invite you to complete an updated parent/carer audit to contribute to this process and inform next steps. This initiative is open to all year groups. Each student starts with a 'clean slate' and behaviour referrals will be tracked during this 8 week period. Qualifying students will be eligible for a 'Rewards day' and those deemed not eligible (your PTG and DHT will decide based on the number of referrals you have) will not take part and will work in classrooms on school materials instead. Activities on offer so far include ….. Sumo wrestling, Tug of War, Gladiator Duel, Rodeo Bull, Bubble football, Music Jam, Rounders, Cooking, Fun mini science experiments and challenges, Film showings of “Spirited Away”, “Big Fat Liar” or “Cloudy with a chance of meatballs”, Summer Sports, Dog handling, Creating a movie, Building a model Castle or WW1 trench or Parliament building, Disco, Karaoke and Open Mic session, The Greatest Marr College Treasure Hunt…….EVER, Chess, Hair and Make-up masterclass, XBOX, PS3/4, Screening of Grease - sing-along version. All the activities will be publicised through posters and the plasma screens. Signup sheets will be available from Friday 21st June from the teachers named on the list and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Marr Musical Theatre presents ‘Grease’ – and opening night is less than a week away!
Starring a host of S1 to S6 singing, dancing and acting talent, don’t miss this story of teen romance with the best songs from the 1978 movie. ‘Greased Lightning’, ‘Sandy’, 'Hopelessly Devoted to You’, ‘We Go Together’ and ‘You’re the One that I Want’ will take you back to those heady high school days. There will be a live band, under the Musical Direction of Miss Kirsty Walker, with choreography devised by the company and our amazing dance troupe. There will be a Tuck Shop – and interval refreshments to purchase on the evening to raise funds for future productions. School Ties School ties are available to purchase from ‘Ayrshire Schoolwear’ in Kilmarnock. They have Marr stock in store. Price £5.50 or £5.99 for longer length. We encourage all pupils to wear their school tie as part of school uniform.
