Marr College played host to the South Ayrshire Schools’ History Challenge on 11 June. Marr College won the competition last year and the entry produced by the S1 team this year was of an equally high standard. Marr’s team decided to focus upon the theme of the role that Troon played in WWI. As a result of some impressive research, the students were able to share the story of how the Ailsa Shipping Company made an important contribution to the war effort and of how many of its former workers made the ultimate sacrifice at Gallipoli in July 1915.
Six schools from South Ayrshire participated in the Challenge and congratulations must go to Ayr Academy who won the competition following an excellent presentation on the Suffragette campaigns in Scotland. Team Marr were runners-up. A big well done to Caitlin, Rachel, Sophie, Sarah, Emma and Jack for all their hard work on behalf of Marr College.
