We were delighted to host our annual tournament, in partnership with Troon Chess Club in the Learning Plaza on Tuesday 26th June.

Troon Chess club provided the handsome trophy that has been won two years running by Calum.   Calum returned to defend his title, but there were seven players who battled through play-offs to the last eight - desperate to take the title from him!

After some hard-fought battles, Calum made it to the final against Matthew.  When the dust settled, a new Marr College School Champion was announced – congratulations Matthew!  And well done to Calum for winning twice and reaching the final again.

Thank you to Troon Chess Club for organising and running what has become a very successful and fun annual event.

​Chess Club takes place every Friday lunchtime in Science lab 118.  The club is friendly, relaxed and welcoming. We have the support of Bob Reid from Troon Chess Club who is on hand to offer some expert tips and advice.  Everyone is welcome from S1-S6.  If you have never played chess before, come and learn how to play a great game in a friendly, fun environment.

Marr College has developed strong links with Troon Chess Club – with Clive Baird from Troon Chess kindly running an annual tournament and providing the handsome trophy for the winner.
We are also delighted to secure the support of local expert Bob Reid, who is with us every Friday at Marr and is providing fantastic hints and tips to develop our young people’s skills.
Chess Club runs every Friday lunchtime in Room 118 (Science Corridor).  All students are welcome – if you have never played chess before, come along and learn in a friendly, fun and supportive environment.
