Applications for student leadership positions are now closed.

We would like to thank everyone who took the time to apply, we appreciate your commitment to developing student leadership throughout Marr College.

All applicants for the position of School Captains should now have received an email informing them of the next steps in the process. Please ensure that your video has been submitted to [email protected] by the deadline of Wednesday 27th May. This will be considered alongside your application form by the panel and if successful, you will be contacted with a time for your online interview, which will take place w/b 8th June.

House captain applications will be considered after the process for appointing school captains has finished.

P7 Transition

We have a dedicated page for all pupils currently in P7, who would be enjoying transition days with us in the building of Marr College over the next few weeks. ALthough we cannot get you all in at the moment we do have some online material being created by departments and support staff to ensure that when you do step through our doors in the purple and gold you know us all a little bit.

Starting today the P7 Transition page has a handy little guide to Marr for you to view or download as well as information for all parents.

‘Dress Up’For Mental Health, Friday 15th May

May is National Mental Health month and this coming Friday we are asking all our young people and staff to ‘Dress Up’ for mental health. Instead of our usual non-uniform days, let’s get dressed up in our uniforms or House colours throughout the school day (or at least for an hour or so in the morning). Parents, carers and siblings are welcome to join in too!

We would love everyone to get involved and we will be sending out a few staff messages on Friday to promote positive mental wellbeing throughout our school community. We would love to see young people join in and encourage you to send in photos via Twitter @MarrColOfficial or through the school email address [email protected]. We will be retweeting lots on the day and will create a collage of photos sent in from our students.

Our chosen charity for the Dress Up day is Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH). Throughout this session we have continued to promote positive mental wellbeing and it is especially important to look after our mental health in these challenging times. The resources provided by SAMH have been a key feature of our wellbeing activities and we are grateful to them for this support.

So, time to dig out your tie and dust off you blazer! Let’s try to reach our target of £1000.

Impact of Youth Work - information from Youthlink Scotland

In the immediate aftermath of lockdown restrictions imposed to stop the spread of Covid-19, Youthlink Scotland surveyed Scotland’s Youth Work Sector Leaders to determine the scale of the impact this would have on the sector.
They received a fantastic response, with over three quarters sharing their views and concerns with, enabling them to put together a detailed picture of the sector’s ability to support young people throughout the duration of Covid-19 – and beyond.
While the survey results demonstrate once again the resilience of the sector in times of adversity, thier concern is that they also foreshadow a sustained period of immense financial strain for the sector. Unless urgent action is taken to ensure the viability of our sector beyond Covid-19, youth work services across the country will be transformed beyond recognition, to the detriment of an entire generation of young people in Scotland.

Key figures to emerge from the survey:

·       National voluntary youth work organisations in Scotland are facing an immediate income loss of £20.5m
·       70% of youth work leaders in Scotland believe there will be cuts to services and budgets after Covid-19
·       60% of local authority youth work services face significant digital barriers in connecting with young people
·       92% of youth work organisations have moved their services online
·       One in two youth work leaders believe there will be a detrimental impact on young people’s mental health due to lockdown restrictions
