For two months Mrs Ledingham’s S3 French pupils worked on an interdisciplinary project based on the French movie “Samba”. They investigated the issues that migrants face when arriving in a new country, and what it means to be a “sans papier”. In addition to discussing prejudice against migrants, in French, our pupils have looked at the history of migrants with Miss Ball (History Department) and made comparisons with the modern world. Miss Owens (School Librarian) ran a workshop on the portrayal of migrants in the media, whilst another highlight of the project was the recording of a rap, organised by Miss Walker (Music Department), to address the issues of the Calais Jungle as highlighted by “The Calais Sessions” album. To complete the project the pupils produced fake twitter pages, in French, describing the experiences of a migrant arriving in the Calais Jungle – this work will contribute to the achievement of our Silver Award as a “Rights Respecting School”.

Our S3 Administration class worked on a festive project in conjunction with Troon Primary and Santa in December 2017. The class produced personalised letters from Santa to Primary 3 students, as we all know how busy Santa is during December. The P3 classes worked hard on writing their letters to Santa - telling him a bit about their siblings, pets, what they want for Christmas etc. They made a lovely job of decorating their envelopes! In return our S3 Administration students used their Word Processing and Access database skills to complete a mail merge - producing a personalised letter for each Troon Primary student. These were delivered in festive envelopes with a Santa sticker enclosed for each child. The class were even trying to convince Miss Wyllie to let them hand deliver the letters dressed as elves! A big thank you to Mrs Roan from Troon Primary for her help coordinating the project. (Apologies from the newsdesk - this feature should have been reported in December.) S1 Historians have recently been taking part in active presentations about the Battle of the Somme. As well as excellent powerpoint presentations to the class, students have been creative in selecting new and interesting ways to present their knowledge. Here is a selection of work on the Battle, including: a trench cake, a model trench, a 3D lego poster, cupcake battle, a poem from the trenches, and poppy cakes complete with fact flags.
Last week was Book Week Scotland and some of our S2 pupils joined in the celebrations. The theme this year was 'nourish' and our librarian, Miss Owens, asked pupils to share information about a book that means a lot to them, a book that has nourished them over time. Below you can read a selection of their responses, you might even get an idea for a present for Christmas! They then had some fun re-creating book titles with a food theme. Continue reading for a giggle at some of these.

Our S1 students have been learning about WW1 in history: S1 Historians have been studying WW1 and we have been learning about the importance of propaganda during the war. Our task was to create our own propaganda posters to try and persuade men to join the army. We have done this by looking at different themes such as making them feel proud of their country, making them feel guilty for not fighting, showing the army to be a fun adventure, and asking women to step up during the war. Here are some of our posters.(Written by class 1W) |
