We have a dedicated page for all pupils currently in P7, who would be enjoying transition days with us in the building of Marr College over the next few weeks. ALthough we cannot get you all in at the moment we do have some online material being created by departments and support staff to ensure that when you do step through our doors in the purple and gold you know us all a little bit.
Starting today the P7 Transition page has a handy little guide to Marr for you to view or download as well as information for all parents. In the immediate aftermath of lockdown restrictions imposed to stop the spread of Covid-19, Youthlink Scotland surveyed Scotland’s Youth Work Sector Leaders to determine the scale of the impact this would have on the sector.
They received a fantastic response, with over three quarters sharing their views and concerns with, enabling them to put together a detailed picture of the sector’s ability to support young people throughout the duration of Covid-19 – and beyond. While the survey results demonstrate once again the resilience of the sector in times of adversity, thier concern is that they also foreshadow a sustained period of immense financial strain for the sector. Unless urgent action is taken to ensure the viability of our sector beyond Covid-19, youth work services across the country will be transformed beyond recognition, to the detriment of an entire generation of young people in Scotland. Key figures to emerge from the survey: · National voluntary youth work organisations in Scotland are facing an immediate income loss of £20.5m · 70% of youth work leaders in Scotland believe there will be cuts to services and budgets after Covid-19 · 60% of local authority youth work services face significant digital barriers in connecting with young people · 92% of youth work organisations have moved their services online · One in two youth work leaders believe there will be a detrimental impact on young people’s mental health due to lockdown restrictions You can read the full report here. We are sharing these findings with permission to the whole school community to inform you all. Maths for Parents
Don't worry if your child is not feeling motivated to work through all the work that is set. From my own experience, it can be very overwhelming for them. The important thing is that we look after their emotional well-being in this difficult time. So I have attached a booklet that gives some advice and suggests possible resources that you could use at home to engage in Mathematics with your child. A little Maths each day would be a huge victory! Stay safe. F McCue, PT Maths Click to access the Parent's guide. This booklet offers a detailed list of resources and web links that are split into primary and secondary and differentiated by level. There are websites listed in each section and each is hyperlinked. The key thing is that they are all free to use; some for the moment in response to the crisis, others permanently so. This is not an exhaustive list as there are loads of great resources out there but it is a great starting point! |
