On Monday 3rd October we had some good success at the South Ayrshire Volleyball Tournament hosted by Kyle Academy.
Marr had 3 teams entered who all played brilliant on the day and represented the school very well. Marr A went on to win the tournament. Congratulations to the team. We have organised for our schools sports teams to have photographs taken on Thursday 19th May. This year we will take the photographs at the Marr Playing Fields due to the construction work going on within the main school campus. All players are expected to attend the photograph session and pupils should bring their strips if they play in a hockey, rugby or volleyball team.
Pupils will get changed in the sports pavilion at the playing fields and should arrive 15 minutes prior to their time slot. The table below indicates the time each team will get their photograph taken. On Monday 25th April the Marr U13 football team played in the final of the Ayr and District Cup against Kyle Academy. Unfortunately the team lost 5-2 to a very strong Kyle squad, however, they represented Marr with pride and were a credit to themselves. A special mention must go to Adam Rice who scored both goals for Marr on the night. The team have had a very successful first season and are looking forward to playing in the league next year. The squad are: Harry Jackson, Adam Morrison, Jenson Cameron, Ethan McIntyre, Ross Gouldstone, Nairn Calder, Adam Rice, Stewart Mathieson, Lewis Muir, Calum Mabon, Finn Maley, Jay Malcolm, Lewis Emberson, Josh Davies, Jamie Kaminski and Robbie Peacock.
This week two of our school football teams have reached Ayrshire Schools Cup Finals being held at Dam Park, Ayr.
Tonight, 25th April, our U13 team play against Kyle Academy, Kick off is at 6pm. Good Luck! On Wednesday, 27th April, it's the turn of our U18 team who, again, are up against Kyle Academy, with a kick-off time of 7pm. Good Luck to both teams and all are welcome to come along and support our boys. On Friday 11th March the Glasgow Warriors professional Rugby Team visited Marr College. The event was attended by 60 of our S1-3 boys who participate in the School of Rugby programme. The team held an open training session on our 3G all-weather pitch from 1pm-2.30pm. This was a great opportunity for our boys and teachers to watch the players being put through their paces by Glasgow Head Coach and ex Scotland captain Gregor Townsend.
After this the boys took part in a community coaching session with the players for 45 minutes. At the end of the session all the players were on hand to sign autographs and take photographs with our boys. It was a typical Scottish spring afternoon, however, the poor weather didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of everyone involved. Sixth Year Student Karen Reid was representing Marr in the Scottish Schools Swimming Championships on Saturday 30th January at Tollcross. Karen achieved 1st place in the girls 17-19 100m backstroke and 2nd place in the 200m backstroke. This is an excellent achievement from an outstanding student who continually demonstrates determination and hard work in all aspects of her swimming and schooling.
Congratulations must also go to Megan Niven (S4) and Erin Moore (S4) who were also representing Marr and performed admirably in their individual events. Our S3 hockey team beat St Columba’s 1-0 in the S3 South-West K.O. cup. The girls will now represent South-West District at the National Inter-District Championships on Thursday 10th June. The tournament will be played at the Scottish Hockey Centre in Glasgow (venue for the Commonwealth Games.)
The victorious girls are: Carly Dunlop, Dionne Davidson, Rebecca Meikle, Emily Wilce, Katy Ramage, Lyndsay Frew, Louise Fraser, Rosie Watkins, Anna Paul, Chloe Russel, Jaime Hood, Emma Rigby, Emily Criaud, Kelli MacKenzie. It was a closely fought game. Chloe Russel scored the winner from a penalty corner in the last minute. Well done to all our girls and good luck for the next round.
